Risk and benefit of online learning.
One major benefit of online learning is convenient. You can actually learn at your own time, it could be anywhere as long as you have access to a computer. The risk is you can easily forget assignments due dates, quizzes, modules to study especially when you do not keep track of these important dates. sometimes it could be frustrating when you can't understand a module and would need an explanation right way. You have no choice other than to email the professor and wait for a response. Summary is online learning has its advantages and disadvantages.

ReplyDeleteI agree, that baby boomers are first to take up online courses. They are raised wit technology where as elder people have just been exposed to it as it came about several years ago. I agree that participating online in the cyber classroom setting may also not be as intimidating to someone who doesn't always speak up in class, it is comforting to never be put on the spot by your professor in front of all of your peers when asked a question. Allowing students time to organize their thoughts and research them if they are unsure of a response is also helpful to the students self-esteem.
ReplyDeleteHowever, these students are also lacking the emotional and social interaction that they should be experiencing in the classroom setting. Its a give and take for the students development, they gain the convenience and self esteem to hide behind their computer and be as talkative as they wish but they lack the face-to-face contact. They lack the ability to make those "college memories" with their peers and make friends that they can potentially keep for a lifetime. Online courses have their benefits and risks alongside them. I entirely agree online learning is very convenient for example i am able to lesson my travels to Brampton for class as i am doing my electives online. However it also has its disadvantages I forget things occasionally and when something doesn't make since it takes longer to have it clarified. Online learning is best done as a portion of your education rather than as the entire thing as the ability to interact and socialize with people face to face is a huge portion of human development that cant be overlooked due to the convenience of online learning.
